February 24, 2025 — It is with immense sadness that the National Association for Charitable Textile Recycling (NACTR) announces the passing of Michael Mostyn, a member of our Board of Directors and a devoted advocate for justice, community, and human rights.
Michael Mostyn, who served as the CEO of B’nai Brith Canada since 2014, was a man of remarkable vision, passion, and integrity. Under his leadership, B’nai Brith became a formidable voice in the fight against antisemitism and for the defense of marginalized communities across Canada. His work not only transformed the organization, but it also strengthened protections and created lasting change for countless people.
Born into a family committed to Jewish tradition and values, Michael’s guiding principle in life was tikkun olam—repairing the world. This principle permeated all his endeavors, from his legal work to his role in public service and his advocacy for the Jewish community. Michael was awarded numerous accolades for his efforts, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a testament to the depth of his contributions to society.
Michael’s influence will be felt for generations to come. He was a dedicated leader, a wonderful listener, and an advocate for the vulnerable. His vision, warmth, and deep sense of justice inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael is survived by his loving family—Ella, Benjy, and Bella—whom he cherished deeply. He was a devoted son, brother, and friend, and his memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew him.
As we mourn this profound loss, we commit ourselves to continuing Michael’s legacy of justice, kindness, and community building.
