SUMMARY:International Day of Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:The Day against Climate Change constitutes a global platform for climate action from all its perspectives\, focusing on the establishment of strong policies\, severe changes in the production model\, effective technological developments and\, above all\, creating climate awareness. \nAfter the publication of the latest IPCC report\, we cannot let passivity condemn the planet to a path of no return. To ensure that the increase temperature increase does not exceed 1.5ºC at the end of the century\, it is essential to generate agile and sustained large scale GHG (greenhouse gas) reductions\, a scenario from which we are still far from. \nClimate change means a significant global risk in the economic\, environmental and social fields\, so climate action is necessary and urgent. According to The Global Risks Report 2021\, the climate action failure is perceived as one of the most important risks globally\, in terms of severity and probability.

SUMMARY:World Environmental Health Day
DESCRIPTION:World Environmental Health Day:\n\nStrengthening Environmental Health Systems\nfor the implementation of the\nSustainable Development Goals \n \nThe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, also known as the Global Goals\, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty\, protect the planet\, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity now and in the future. \nThe 17 SDGs are integrated – they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others\, and that development must balance social\, economic\, and environmental sustainability\, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. \nThe mission statement of the United Nations on SDGs is as follows:\n“A blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all people and the world by 2030.” \nEnvironmental Health plays a pivotal role in the implementation of these SDGs. It is interesting to note that Environmental Health fits into 7 SDGs\, 19 targets and 30 indicators of the SDGs. \nFurther information about the theme of 2022 \nLook up the WEHD 2022 message from the President of the IFEH\,\nDr. Henroy Scarlett \n IFEH Presidential WEHD Message \n  \nHow to get involved \nMany activities are taking place around the Globe in connection to this big event. The IFEH wants as many as possible of the events in this connection to be known. And let us be clear – it doesn’t cost any thing to get your event displayed on this site. \nJust send information about your initiative to Hon IFEH Webmaster Henning Hansen webmaster@ifeh.org\nif you should like information about your inititative to be published on this site.

SUMMARY:Secondhand September Challenge Month
DESCRIPTION:Have you heard about the ‘Secondhand September’ movement?\n\n\n\n\nThe ‘Secondhand September‘ challenge encourages you to rethink buying new and try to find what you need pre-loved when possible. This resource you need may already exist and is awaiting someone like you to help keep it in use. \nParticipate in the circular economy and do your part to help transform waste into a resource! \nMake the pledge to be a secondhand seeker this month and join the Secondhand September 2022 movement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare Your Favourite Thrifted Find!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStarted by Oxfam in the UK\, Second Hand September is a 30-day campaign to halt fast fashion\, stop buying new clothes and pass along donations of unwanted items. \nAn article in the New York Times defined fast fashion as “inexpensive\, cheaply made clothing rapidly produced by mass-market retailers in response to the latest and most popular trends. Fast fashion is literally designed to fall apart and is a large contributor to throwaway culture and overconsumption.” \n  \n\n\n\n\nPledge To Participate\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe apparel industry’s global emissions output is predicted to increase by 49% by 2030 if nothing changes. \nWhy is this scary? \nThis fashion industry is the second highest user of water worldwide\, producing 20% of total global water waste. \nThe fashion and apparel industry is responsible for approximately one third of all microplastics found in the ocean. \nClothing production produces more emissions than international plane travel and shipping combined. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin The Movement!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChoosing Secondhand First\n\n\n\n\nIntersectional Note: It is important to consider some of the limitations of relying only on visiting a secondhand store. Visiting a thrift store requires time\, does not ensure item availability or sizing for all\, and there may be physical barriers to thrift shopping in person. \nWe MUST take a stand against senseless waste and we encourage you to take it even further with the suggestions below! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to take the Secondhand September challenge even further\n\n\n\n\nRandom Acts of Green challenges you to widen the scope. \nTake the Secondhand September challenge even further and look for other ways you can make the most out of materials that already exist. \nHere are some examples: \n\nRenting – borrow the items you need from a library\, service or peer-to-peer network.\nUpcycle – transform a material you already have into the item you are looking for.\nSwap – host or attend a clothing swap to help redistribute items locally.\nRecycled Materials –  take a closer look at the materials used in manufacture of items you need and support makers that create using second hand materials. Not all items themselves can be bought second hand but perhaps those products can be consciously created using repurposed materials.\nBorrow – for items that you need for a limited time\, ask people in your networks if they can lend you what you need.\nRepair – try to mend what you have or have it altered or fixed by someone who can.\nConsume less – simply buy only what you need and nothing more.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin The Movement!

SUMMARY:World Environment Day
DESCRIPTION:World Environment Day on 5 June is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973\, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach\, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet.\n  \nTHE COMMUNITY\nWorld Environment Day is a global platform for inspiring positive change. With over 150 countries participating\, this UN international day engages governments\, businesses\, civil society\, schools\, celebrities\, cities and communities\, raising awareness and celebrating environmental action. \nIndividuals can be drivers of change through their support for businesses and governments. The actions of these larger entities can have a transformational impact\, potentially locking in sustainable consumption and production behaviours for the decades to come. \nTHE HOST\nEach year\, World Environment Day is hosted by a different country where the official celebrations take place. The host country for 2022 is Sweden. \nWorld Environment Day 2022 will be an opportunity to showcase some of Sweden’s pioneering work on the environment over the past 50 years. UNEP will work with Sweden to showcase these innovations through a series of written stories and short videos that will be shared online. \n2022 A HISTORIC MILESTONE\n2022 is a historic milestone for the global environmental community. It marks 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment\, widely seen as the first international meeting on the environment. The 1972 Stockholm Conference spurred the formation of environment ministries and agencies around the world and kickstarted a host of new global agreements to collectively protect the environment. It was also where the goals of poverty alleviation and environmental protection became linked\, paving the way for the Sustainable Development Goals. At the Stockholm Conference\, the idea of World Environment Day was formalized\, with the first one being celebrated in 1973. \nIn early June 2022\, the high-level Stockholm+50 international meeting will be held in Sweden\, a few days before World Environment Day. The communications around these events are connected and will be mutually reinforcing. \nSTAY CONNECTED\nWorld Environment Day 2022\, like previous years\, will be celebrated by millions of people across the world\, both online and through in-person events. Sign up here to stay informed and be part of the Only One Earth campaign. \n  \nShare your events and actions by taking part in the Earth Action Numbers\, and using #OnlyOneEarth and #WorldEnvironmentDay on social media.
